He’s probably bound by a non-compete buyout clause OAN will have to pay to the Fox overlords to bring him on.

This is very likely.

This is also possibly a motivator in Tucker Carlson's lukewarm "performance" of late: forced to "play ball" with the "New Fox Lite" CNN-style approach, because leaving the network could involve the consequence of a "non-compete clause" that is by design intended to impair his job opportunities for a specified period of time (unless it can be dealt with via a massive payoff.)

Lou Dobbs went out blazing, from what I have seen of him lately. He was not having any of that "oh no, that sucks" Fredo-Cuomo-speak that Carlson has dealt in since (obviously fraudulent) election night. The last I saw Dobbs a few days ago he was fired up, he sounded like a Centipede with a TV show. (But that's also part of why he's out, he was stepping on the wrong toes with both feet!)

Here’s a similar situation where someone got the ax at Fox. Glenn Beck exposing the Fed.

Fox will not likely let him out of the noncompete provisions of his contract. They're objective is not to lose viewers, and having him jump to another network shortly after he ceased to appear on Fox would result in a lot of viewers following him. Fox will keep a larger percent of his viewers if he's not available to be watched anywhere for a while, as many will keep tuning in to Fox at the same time and watching whatever replacement programming Fox puts there.
