They still have him under all the restrictions of the contract, including noncompete provisions. And most contracts for this type of job are written so that many of the provisions continue for some time beyond the end of the contractual employment period. In other words, even though they're apparently still paying him now, even when his contract expires, he won't be instantly free to do or say anything he wants, and he will probably never be free to discuss confidential/nonpublic information about Fox.
Dobbs and OANN are so based, I’d love to see whether they’d be willing to pay whatever free the contract lists for breaking it so just they can out him on air asap.
These contracts don't necessarily have any set fee for ending the agreement early. Fox does not want him jumping to a competitor and they don't have to let him out of the contract at all. He can try to negotiate an exit agreement that would allow him to start working for a competitor very soon, but there's no reason to think Fox would be willing to agree to that, and certainly not at a price that OAN could afford.
