Ok, this active self defense guy is imho an idiot. He praises the actions of the home owner who was able to actively defend himself and got lucky he was able to do so. What this guy never mentions is the merit of passive protection measures. Don't you wonder how the intruders are always able to kick in the door with 2 to 3 kicks max? Result: minimum reaction time of the home owners. For a majority the reaction time will be too short. These are the bad outcomes not shown. A $40 door block would have prevented the intrusion through the door. Most of the criminals would have given up after kick number 5 without the door budging. After 5 hard knocks on the door the home owner would have had gained a lot of reaction time to prepare or take other action. There is a reason not to have glass at your doors or on the side of the doors. It is an unspoken invitation. European shutters are uncommon in the US, but provide more than light protection/shade, especially the burglar proof models. People need to understand how to combine active and passive protection measures for maximum advantage.
