I still can not believe the republicans backstabbed their party's popular president. They could have had the presidency for 12 or 16 years with Cruz or Pence running after Trump in 2024. They broke the blue wall. Trump brought them PA, MI and WI.
Why would they want that? They would rather go back to being the minority and playing opposition-lite while pretending to talk tough, do nothing, always snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, and solicit us for donations

Trump made it much harder for them to do this job. They still lose, but they can't make it look non-obvious anymore.
