I buy the real stuff. I put it in a little pouring bowl with spout and heat it up. What I don’t use out of it I put back in the jar. The syrup is like 15 bucks a jar, but it goes for a couple years, at least at the rate we use it. If I had 5 kids it might be too expensive.

Really? I went shopping on Saturday and we needed syrup, my wife wanted Aunt Jemimas and they didn't have any. I saw the Pearl Milling Company and recognized the shape and joked that was the replacement because of racism, she laughed and we ended up going with a different brand. I was just joking at the time but I'm glad we didn't end up buying it!
Honestly, doing stuff like that actually sends a message. You at at the end of the day if sales of these brands starts to decline the management is going to want to know why. Most of their compensation is tied to stock options based on the stock price. If they see the sales are going down after the brand change......then they know they made a shit financial decision and might be inclined to not do it again going forward.

You nailed it with Costco. There's actually articles online of great buys / stuff you never knew they (Costco) had (ie huge cheese wheels, pounds of sushi, etc). They actually list maple syrup from Costco as not only the genuine product, but also a great deal!
I buy pretty much everything I can at Costco because the quality is better and its cheaper than most places. However, I agree you should buy local when you can.
