Didn't kill anyone that you saw. Given today's media, we could assume that a Jawa's passive nature could be entirely fabricated and in smaller to medium groups be highly aggressive. And in larger groups, why wouldn't they be aggressive? Think Black Hawk Down here...
While I'll agree that Islam in general is more representative of the Sand People, the Jawas would likely be of a similar belief structure yet practicality based. They inhabit the same planet, occupy similar regions, but will never really be part of the same group so they instead make due pirating shit from the broader communities and playing the weak victim for protection.
Should one gain any political clout, what do you think they would do? Scheme and scam like Omar, or declare a religious crusade?
Jawas are pretty much always in groups, they are very community-oriented species, meeting a solo Jawa that wants to go out on his own is very rare, sort of like meeting an Ewok outside of forest moon of Endor.
Jawas are cowardly by nature (basically being afraid of their own shadows). Sure, they will break apart your ship while you are not there, but when you come close and are armed (as any traveller to Outer Rim should be), they start scurrying away.
The only time Jawa feels in position of power is when they have something you want (often something they originally stole from you) and when near one of their fortress-like Sandcrawlers, where all negotiating takes place.
They do not seek gaining political clout, they just want to be left alone to scavenge and trade with anyone that want to.
