I work in research and development for the energy sector in Germany. The green energy agenda is about to fail here in Germany. The problem isn't so much, that we have about zero solar and wind right now (that happens at least for two weeks every winter), but because of the lockdown, the energy demand is very volatile. That demand has to be satisfied with coal- and gas-fired power plants. Essentially, we are spending about 40 Billion $ per year on additional costs for electricity, but the technology we get fails us miserably. To get to a completely renewable grid, we would need to expand the current green energy capacity at least seven-fold...
At the end of next year, our nuclear power plants will be shut down. That's gonna be a crap show.
What's going on with France? I've read that they plan to shut down half of their current nuclear reactors, but after further research, it seems like they have at least one new one opening soon.
I ask because I've read that Germany is buying power from France.
France's nuclear reactors are old, and too often, badly maintained. France is going to massively expand renewables (because they cucked) but new nuclear reactors might be a reality. Research in nuclear power is alive and well, even in Germany.
Germany does buy electricity from France. It always depends on the current price. France buys electricity from Germany when it gets too warm because they don't have enough cooling to run on higher loads.
