yep. then you maybe only need one or two floaters to override or fix when the register fucks up on something, change receipt tape or restock change if they do that. No need to hire people to scan and make change.
Maybe this will force people to actually pay attention to the coupons they are trying to use and not try to argue with the cashier when the coupon says 50cents off 2 gallon size OJ, (must buy 2) and they think they should get the discount on one quart size. Shit pissed me off back in the day when I was a cashier at a supermarket, not only did they have that little green display (that was supposed to be screwed in to the metal pole and for me to see what I was scanning, but they wanted to turn that so they could watch every scan, then freak out about ANYTHING that scanned not how they expected it to in their mind. And the concept of "register totals up all discounts at the end" is foreign to them. They also don't understand basic math to see that yes, the register did take off the right amount discount for the club card special, it rings up at normal price then calculated how much to discount to meet the club price, you're not likely to see $3.49 for the price, likely to see $4.49 -$1.00 on the receipt. Rest assured you were charged only $3.49....
Then they want to use EBT/SNAP, the card doesn't work, not enough funds whatever, then theres no chip so the magnetic strip doesn't read...have to try the trick of wrapping in a plastic bag and swiping (no idea why people think that works)...then they want to pay with a check (with no "check cashing" sticker on their club card so maybe they've bounced checks before?) and they don't have ID with them so it's this whole shit just to get the manager over and OK it all....
then this HUGE stack of coupons they have that don't match half the items, sizes or quantities they have and half are expired anyway or over the limit to double...and they raise hell over that....somehow they manage to walk out with 2 overflowing carts of shit and pay maybe $75-100 and that's just ONE customer, and the line for your register stretches back to the meat counter....I don't miss those days
