In high school I was captain of the men's running teams (track and cc) and had a not so friendly rivalry with the captain of the girls teams. Our girls were absolutely dominant, winning every year in both sports because running was a requirement for all girls athletics. Meanwhile the boys teams had to make due with the scrapings because the football coaches didn't want their players running cc and basketball didn't want them running track.
I and one other guy were the only ones who would have been good enough to varsity on a real track team and as a result we never did well. And we took a fair amount of shit for it from the girls. (Though I ended up marrying one of them lol)
The girl's captain was a once in a generation talent. She went on to run for a big D1 school on scholarship. By contrast I got a half scholly offer from our local D3, and a walk on offer from Baylor and that's it.
Anyway, one track meet like half the schools didn't show up for one reason or another. So they decided to combine men's and women's 3200 (two mile) to save time. That was one of my events and the girl's captain's event. I lapped her and was like 15 seconds from doing it again. Was a good feeling and earned us a reprieve from the shit talk.

There's no competition between men and women.
