Always beware of tech companies. Just because they're on your side today doesn't mean they will have the same views tomorrow. Leadership in these companies changes often.
That being said, Proton Mail does a decent job making privacy a high priority. And its better than giving anything to Google
I didn't want to go into the tech details of it to explain the difference. And I am sure that some ISP have stopped providing service to some people for something the ISP didn't like.
They use their own colos "at several locations within Switzerland" (https://protonmail.com/security-details). So not dependent on a single hosting company or datacenter.
Also, I doubt that in Swizerland a colo hoster can just break a contract like AWS did and get away with it.
So true. I have such fond memories before Surveillance Capitalism when my Google searches actually returned the most relevant information and Facebook was a place to share family photos and updates among friends without becoming targeted for algorithmic emotional and behavioral manipulation.
I can't look up anything without Google throwing sites trying to sell me stuff now. Even if I add review or put phrases in quotes, looking for opinions, it's always the same set of newspapers or such. I have to dig to find an individual's personal page or independent thoughts. Sadly, no other search engine is offering anything better. Although it does make hopping over to other search engines easier as Google no longer returns the indesputable best ones.

Or their ISP just yeets them off like parlar. People should also have a backup form of communications that are secure.
FYI ISPs have not yeeted (yote?) anyone. Amazon Web Hosting dumped Parlar (in violation of their contract).
Can we go with 'Yoted'?
That sounds like a good suggestion! It rolls off the tongue nicely! Thanks Pede!
