I try to teach my kids critical thinking skills and develop their own opinions but kids learn early on that if you write the essay that challenges the teacher's position it probably is not going to go well and the kid is not going to get the grade he deserves. In the past, teachers would encourage this but not anymore. They may actually out you in front of the class because you challenge their ideology. I haven't witnessed this yet with my own children, but the way things are going it will become commonplace. Once children our demoralized early in their lives those events stay with them forever.

You're right about that but it is getting into the private schools also. My kids attend Catholic schools and since there is less money to be made in private schools, they are forced to hire teachers who made not be religious or hire teachers who are just using the job as a stepping stone to get into public education. It is better than the public schools but you do need to monitor what your kids are kids are taking in.
