Yeah, that makes total sense. They kill Mike Pence, meaning that Nancy Pelosi will be next in line because there's no way Congress will confirm a replacement VP for all of a week before the inauguration. They can't claim the desire to kill Pence was due to him finishing the certification because the events were planned for weeks.
With that in mind, I would be more likely to believe that people that hate Trump would be the ones trying to take out Pence. Then they can use the incident to get Trump out of there before the 20th, and Nancy gets to go down in history being the first female president for a week or two before Biden took over.
