If you enable ads, which aren't bad, you are compensated with crypto currency, which you can donate to content makers such as the people running this very site! It's a cool idea.
I use duckduckgo by default, but not really sure how they work. Aren't they woke too? Posts below said they were caught censoring. I think I read on here before that they utilize other engines' results to an extent, which would make them more of a metasearch than independent alternative.
They seem to have legit results. They are woke though lol donated money to some pretty shitty lefty orgs but it was break the bank amounts. Curious why a search engine still trying to get capital to improve their product is donating anything but stupid gonna stupid.
Just to throw out randomly... they could believe in these, being simple leftist aholes, at least in management. Or they could be thinking they'll get crushed by PR bullies who threaten them otherwise. Like, donate to my group or your racist. (They'll find a racist search result, show how duckduckgo has a higher rate of directing people to the KKK than google or whatever stupid plan they usually pull to try to convince people that an alternative is a hot-bed of extremism /clown honk)
Yes, an argument can be made that most blue-pilled people see these orgs as privacy or free speech orgs and I still give DuckDuckGo the benefit of the doubt because of that.
Don't remember it was years ago but it raised a lot of eyebrows at the time. It wasn't a lot of money so people overlooked it. I still use duckduckgo as my main search engine for about 8 years now. I want to say whatever they donated was somewhere between 50k-500k but honestly can't remember and have no interest in trying to find it.
duck duck go is great for most things. Even downloaded their browser app and use it exclusively on my phone. Their maps though, hot garbage.
I use that, and Brave internet browser.
I suggest you try brave
