your point is valid only as long as there is a fair level playing field. Similar to free , fair elections. /s
With big tech collusion/cabals they can pick off competition. Heck there are people on the right who've put forward ideas why encryption, anonymity, VPN etc should be illegal unless the honest and angelic GOVT agencies like DOJ, FBI etc gets a special backdoor (ergo making the tech exploitable).
There are already places where such things are illegal or downright banned by law.
What happens if proton, vpn , etc are also made unlawful in the interest of protecting the land of the free and home of the "brave"?
Then we're no longer even living under the illusion that we can reclaim our republic. We will have devolved into tyranny. The United States would be no longer.
The US is not the land or the buildings - it is the Constitution, and if the Constitution is being ignored in toto, then it is not the US.
Don't use Dissenter. It's horribly out of date. It's based off a version of Brave from June/July last year and there are a couple dozen CVEs that impact the Chromium it's based off of that could lead to code execution on your machine.
Brave is not an "if you must". I've been using it daily for 2 years now. It's outstanding. And you earn a little sprinkle of crypto just for browsing the web. 100% recommended. Blocks tons of ads and scripts, and natively supports onion routing and IPFS. Everyone should install it - it's a perfect replacement for Chrome and Safari.
upvote protonmail. recently got a paid acct. used the free one for a couple years since my degoogle. not one single issue. tried other similar ones but had problems
ProtonMail is based in Switzerland, a country that is home to some of the strongest data privacy laws in the world. It also has no affiliations or history of cooperation with US security services and their allies. Switzerland is also home to some of the strongest data privacy laws in the world.
I took the plunge and deleted my Google account without any preparation. So far the only online account I've lost (because they send the verification email to your old email address when you update your email) is Warframe, and they supported the violent race riots so fuck them anyways.
In addition there was a time, not so long ago when Yahoo was the 800lb Gorilla and google was but a cute start up.
I rarely use Chrome now (I need it for some banks and other KYC sites) and instead am using Brave and a Dissenter (mostly Brave)
I don't use google SE at all; haven't for well over a year.
I'm migrating off of gmail (to protonmail). ALL new emails accts are now on Protonmail and I'm updating all the other accounts. Soon, I'm off gmail.
Multiply that by tens of millions of people and all of a sudden Protonmail is not small tech and neither is Brave or Dissenter or DDG.

Dissenter would make more sense as a browser extension but as we all know wouldn't be allowed in the repository.
i dont believe that is the issue. There hasn't been any work on it it seems.

Add me to that list as well!
