You ever hear of the brownshirts? They were mobs of people without any sort of governmental authority or sanction (at least in the beginning) that went around attacking Jews and Jewish businesses, plus anyone else critical of the national socialists. They basically had an if you're not with us you're against us mindset which made more people join in so as not to get fucked with and it snowballed from there. There are many paralells in the current climate, think Antifa. BLM to a lesser extent, because while they have political cover too they don't really target people on an ideological basis usually.
