I just read about this, I do not know much about post-Soviet Russia.

Communist party hard-liners attempted (nearly successfully) to declare a state of emergency and retake power for themselves from Gorbachev. The Coup outraged many and contributed to the demise of the Communist Party (see highlight).

I've already seen the narrative of outrage from the storming of the Capitol as a means to destroy support for Trump. This is very tactical political maneuvering by the RINOs, Dems, and Establishment.
