To distinguish that someone else is filling out the second dose.

Optics gets us no results. The card is right. The chip lies/failed. Might be a defective chip idk why your computer don’t read it but my card is the only official CDC proof!

It might be useful to know the CDC has a list of vaccine batches in a csv file on their website as well. Just in case the vaccine provider you choose happens to forget to fill in that part of the card.
