I came home from school one day with a black eye and a bloody lip. My dad asked me what happened? Like he didn't already know. I told him this bigger kid at school beat me up. He asked me if I fought back. I told him know I was too scared. Dad looked me right in the eye and said, "when you see that kid again, you go up to him, and punch him. In the face and tell him you want to figh him". And then he said, "I don't care if he kicks your butt again." "I guarantee you it will be the last time he messes with you." "Once you show him that you are not afraid of him, he won't bother you again". I did exactly what my dad said to do. That kid never messed with me again. In fact, we became pretty good friends after that. It turned out, I was a pretty good fighter too. After that my dad put me in boxing. I never lost a fight. Not bad for a kid that never weighed over 120 pounds throughout high school.
There is only one thing i regret in my whole life so far (25 years), and that is that i have never punched back.
It is a nasty hammer and anvil for a child when he is bullied at school. And the school says that you should be nice, your mother says you should ignore the bullies and your father says you should see the best in the bullies.
I don't hold it against my parents, they simply had no idea how to deal with this situation.
Chain him to an oil heater in your basement

Absolutely.
Dad, "Don't fight. But if a group of bullies demands you fight, pick the biggest one, and take him down fast. The others will run."
