Serving your fellow man as a representative or senator is not supposed to be an aristocratic position. It is supposed to be an inconvenient obligation undertaken for a short time period. Then the obligation is supposed to be picked up by another patriot for a short time period. Further, after short term service, you are supposed to live under the laws you helped create, not above that law.
3,4,or 8 terms in the Senate is a Ruling Aristocracy. It is not in any way government by the people. Its Government over the people.
Regardless of party we need to elect alternatives to the career aristocrats.
2 years no re-election
4 terms in House (8 years), 2 in Senate (12 years) has often be discussed.
Those would be reasonable terms.
Also need to limit SCOTUS term to like 20 years or so.
way too long...2 years that way if we get a shitty congress it doesnt last the whole presidential term of an otherwise perfect potus
There are also valid reasons for more than one term. Have to strike a balance.
Many states term limit governors to 8 years and the Presidency is limited to 8 years.
So that seems to be a reasonable number that should be subjected to debate and analysis.
But I know we can agree that a guy elected in 1974 who is not the Chief Justice of the SCOTUS should not be presiding over an impeachment.
they should not be back to back, id be good with 4 terms max if they were every other....so if you were 30 on your first term, by the time your fourth comes along it is 26 years later
All valid debate points for sure.
BTW, fun factoid: Feinstein (87) was elected to her first public office in 1969.
multiple terms allows their toxic ideology to last and continue lasting....do you take one penecillin and call it quits? Or do you keep taking them until whatever infection is gone. Even if you look at this statment "the tree of liberty from time to time has to be refreshed with the blood of patriots".....maybe that doesnt have to mean death and war, maybe it can simply mean fresh blood, new ideas, non stagnant...vibrant congress with new reps, young and old, but new..
rxactly which is why 4 terms is a little too much, imagine if all the communist lifers would have left 25 years ago....would we still have this problem? No. They want to be kings and queens. Literally they want to rule us. We are americans........DOWN WITH KINGS AND QUEENS!.
Agree, except for this QUEEN.

Bureaucrats as well! Govt is not a career!!!!!!
yep
You are so right and I'm so hoping this is the Republic President Trump wants to bring back. Representing your constituents was never meant to be a full time job in which you enrich yourself.
In fact it was a burden that individuals undertook as an obligation to the free society that Constitutional Republic established.
