Terminator Dark Fate was a shit show but the blonde in that, Mackenzie Davis, is a fairly believable action star too. That made her look more frumpy and androgynous with the stupid haircut but I thought she worked fairly well. Not as well as Gina, who’s almost the perfect female action star with her actual action hero nature as an MMA fighter acts as a bonus to, but it wasn’t as bad as the illegal Mexican chick in that movie who’s like 5’ tall and can barely pick up a gun that you’re supposed to believe is some bad ass in the future. In the future scenes of that movie where she’s taking down people twice her size, I almost laughed. All the Akido in the world is useless against someone that’s simply larger and stronger than you.
Other female action stars can be okay if they operate in a believable fashion, like most of the Asian ones used to. They don’t pretend they’re some kind of badass that can deadlift a car or break your face, they usually work to their type and focus on being resourceful and quick and devious. Linda Hamilton, the original Terminator chick, did well with that too.
Brie Larson being positioned as the next Arnold multiple times in the Captain Marvel movie is everything that’s wrong with how film and TV have come to portray female action heroes, with Gina being everything that’s right. If you actually wanted a female action hero that looked and played the role and even was one in real life, it’s fucking Gina. She’s as legit as it gets, and is likable, which Ronda Rousey has trouble with sometimes. I’d still take Ronda over Brie Larson though. Fuck, make Ronda Rousey Captain Marvel. You couldn’t do worse than Brie. She didn’t even look like she worked out. You see her workouts and the trainer had to give her a cookie between sets and reps. She is a child.
You know how, once you notice that every advertisement (and most shows) feature a white woman with a black man, you can never un-see?
Well, I have another one for you. Watching any movie or TV show featuring a Strong Female Character in any action sequence, specifically watch the stuntmen and how they have to contort to accommodate her 110% to sell being "stuck" or "thrown".
It’s weird seeing ads for anything in the Bay because it’s mostly Chinese and Indian out here with ads that are largely composed of black people and white women. Even at the Universities, you’d think the ads were all for Kwanza despite there being almost no black people at any of the big name schools. Crazy Rich Asians with some Bollywood thrown in is a more realistic depiction of our population than our actual ads in this area.
The weirdest example I’ve seen recently of white women being with black men for no reason in movies was the family in The Social Dilemma. White mother, most of the kids are white, maybe one of them’s a mixed kid with a white face. You know that someone casting that sat down and decided that, despite it having no narrative importance, they were going to cast a black man as the husband to a white family on a fucking documentary about social media. You would never see them do that with a black family. Or an Asian family. They are actively displaying contempt for white men. If you did that just 30 years ago, or even 10-15 years ago, everybody would be saying “Why the fuck is the dad of that white family black? Are they even going to explain that? This is a fucking dramatized documentary. It’s okay if a black guy married a divorced white woman but are they even going to explain that? ”
Haha, no, which is why I noted I didn’t like that they dyked her up. Take her physique in that film with how she looks when she’s not dykie and pretty her up and I think she’d be a good base for an action hero though. Not as good as Gina, but it’s not like there can only be one female action star.
