With all due respect, the People's Party didn't split the vote at all. They got nothing. They polled at 8 percent in some areas, but they got around 0.02% of the national vote. Not a single PP candidate even split the vote in their own race except Bernier himself.
But yes, taking over the GOP has to be done. Patriot Party is not a good idea. The GOP has had more than a century to establish its name recognition, and name recognition is half, if not more than half the battle.
Fair point about the people's party. Full disclosure I voted for them in 2019 but in my riding its either red or orange so it was sort of meaningless in my case.
But as much as I liked the Reform Party, a decade plus of liberal majorities definitely damaged Canada
