The last several decades of public education has been carefully designed to ensure the public doesn't know the difference.

How many Americans do you think have any understanding of the notion that our government derives it's power from the constitution? Or that government is limited at all beyond some vague notion of what the first and fifth amendments say?

At this point, our federal government is like any other government on the planet. They base their authority on force, recognize no limits, and are able to get the vast majority of the public to see this as legitimate through a little bit of propaganda.

At this point, we're an extreme minority just for questioning the absolute power of national government.
