I was in college by the time the war had moved to Afghanistan. The girl I should have dated was talking a lot to this random odd guy who had strong opinions about the war. I cared only as so far as my best friend (who coincidentally ended up dating this same girl) was in the marines and deployed.
I actually was going to join with him and likely would have been deployed too. So I was angry that I wasn't "there" (Afghanistan) at that time. I felt like I had let my friend down and my country.
Anyway, we're sitting having some lunch at community college and this odd guy was ranting about how the war was a good thing. I didn't really say too much, but was just asking some random questions. (Remember, I was like 19, horny and angry all at the same time. I'm sure I made no good points).
Anyway, the whole point of this story was. Some retired Army guy, probably about 40, turned around and started yelling at us saying, "You have no fucking clue what you're talking about. I lost friends over there, I fought in Iraq. Fuck you for thinking you know anything." (Or something to that effect)
This odd guy, just kept talking after but what that Army guy said stuck with me. When my buddy came home, I saw that same conflict in his eyes. That he wasn't sure if he was the "good guy" anymore or just a toy for the rich to wage a money war.
So I say all this, mostly because I'm locked at home right now and ignoring work. But to say:
We are in a war right now. Republican, democrat, etc, they're all useless names. This is a war of truth vs lies. Those who are awake vs those still asleep. We need compassion for those who haven't woken up yet and need to remember they're like we once were.
But FUCK those who willfully stay asleep or lie. Fuck them hard. THEY are the enemy. Mr. Angry Army guy was right.

The US stayed in Afghanistan way beyond our stated goals. Why Bush engaged in Iraq, strengthening Iran infuriated me towards that administration.
Obama did nothing to fix shit.
