True story: a Mexican-American in my office once announced to an entire auditorium of people that he didn’t abuse his dog just because he kept it chained up outside, and that letting your dog in the house was “white people shit.” Nobody has ever let him live that down.

I do concede that there are some allowances to be made for dogs’ living conditions. Working dogs, such as ranch herders or sled dogs, very much need to be kept outside. But there’s a big fucking difference between somebody who breeds Alaskan Huskies for sled competition and some asshole who thinks chaining up their pit bull in the yard is a good idea. Animal welfare standards still apply.
