Very easy to soak up information via osmosis and say "hey he's like me (or so they think) so I'll vote for him" or "hey I remember Romney he seems like a nice guy with slick hair so I'll vote for him" or "hey he's Republican so I'll vote for him."

You'd be surprised how many church members despise Romney. I would not be surprised if he was elected fraudulently.
As for the actual church leadership, they do not endorse candidates on any side. The one exception I can think of is that one time where both candidates wanted to lynch and kill churchmembers, so we voted third party in protest, but that's about it.
