Automotive industry insider here - this is not accurate even slightly. Jeep IS NOT owned by the Chinese.
The way the Chinese auto market works is that if you want to have a plant there, you must be in a 50:50 joint venture with a Chinese company FOR THAT PLANT ONLY. All the manufacturers do this for their manufacturing presence in China, BMW has a JV with Brilliance, Ford is with Changan, Audi is with FAW, GM is with SAIC, all the big companies have similar arrangements. The 50:50 ownership only extends to in-region plants and any in-region employees, NOT the whole company. Don’t get me wrong, this is still fucked and there is a lot of intellectual property theft that is enabled by these JVs but there is no ownership or decision making influences. Your American built Jeeps bought by American customers have NOTHING to do with GAC.
Jeep however is a subsidiary of Sellantis, a newly formed corporation that is the merger of Fiat Chrysler and PSA (Italian-American-French). It is sad that the Italians have got involved, but its mainly on a money level, Jeep HQ and decision making still happens at Chrysler headquarters in Auburn Hills, MI, and has a HUGE manufacturing presence in Michigan and Ohio. Chrysler actually has a long history of mergers with axis powers, can’t forget DiamlerChrysler. But really, with the way the auto industry is now, Fiat Chrysler could have barely survived without this latest merger.
Tl;dr - this is not an accurate post. Jeep is not owned by the Chinese. Jeep (and everyone in the auto industry) has joint ventures set up for their operations within Chinese borders.
