I was married to the father of both my sons. I didn't ask him to die and leave me to raise our 3,4 yr old boys by myself. That was never the plan.
In my opinion widows are not the same as a single mom. Yes you ended up doing it all on your own, but you didn't start out intentionally disadvantaging your kids by having them outside of a marriage. I'm sorry for your loss.
I'm also a single mother made so by the death of my husband, left to raise a baby by myself. I'm sorry you also went through it. It's very hard grieving and raising children at the same time, knowing every milestone is being missed by their father.
