Why would they sell cheaper if instead they can come to an agreement among themselves to not, and then use the money they get to go against anyone else who would sell cheaper?

There's no "all" in the free market. Again, you're ignoring half the equation. Without the government gatekeeping, someone else can just enter the market and take over by selling at a lower but profitable price.

You don't have to struggle and fail at trying to think your way through this like an ivory tower academic. We have all of human history to reference. Free markets nurture growth; govt intervention stifles it.

They can, if they can get the capital to start up. The free market caused the Great Depression, government intervention ended it.
