More specifically, helicopters. There's not much stopping people from having and servicing one with a helipad on your property, but I don't see too many doing that. I guess they think flying cars will be cheaper 😂.
The best friend of a former boss of mine came by our office to visit once. They got to talking about their early days, when they lived next door to each other in apartments. They were so "poor" that all they had was a card table and a deck of cards, and they would just play Spades to pass the time. They said they were completely happy in those days. Human beings do not require a complicated lifestyle to thrive. Quite the opposite.
Making things gives one a sense of accomplishment and that does a lot for mental health. It gives one confidence. This is another reason we have drifted - we no longer make a lot by hand. We go to Walmart and buy junk made in China. Convenient but rootless.
My workshop is honestly the thing keeping me sane right now. A table saw doesn't care about your subjective "truth", it has a spinning blade of objective truth. Add in concrete solvable problems, the endorphins from growth of skills and accomplishing tasks, distraction, physical activity....
