a single punch to the nose never stops a real bully. they will come at you harder than ever and will hurt you more than that punch. The only real way to stop a bully is to, upon first retaliation, beat them so extensively that they fear you till the end of the length of time that the chances of you and that bully coming across one another reduces to close to zero. That bully will actively avoid you, until that time because THEY WILL REMEMBER IT.
You can know how to punch and not be powerful enough to damage someone with said punch. I knew how to punch as a kid myself, and was still bullied (mind you this was grade 1 in the late 80's), i kept punching the bully back (one punch) and giving him a bleeding nose, he would cry, and I would get in trouble (afternoon in the principals office). he still did not stop. one day I had enough of it and beat him so badly he didn't come to school for two weeks, i was suspended for 3 days, and the principal called in a parents meeting where his mother was provided the evidence and history of his bullying against me (he was not present for it as his face was black and blue).
Suffice to say, he never bothered me again. 2 years later they moved away. Apparently there was issues within the community involving his father and the police that was in local news.. but thats another story.
In conclusion, no, knowing how to punch and giving your bully a bleeding nose with one punch will not stop a bully.
Punch in the nose.

Not if you know how to punch, their eyes will be watering and nose bleeding. You have to know how to punch.
