With stock ponds frozen, range cattle can't drink. The power companies are already warning about outages. Those coal-fired power plants don't seem so evil now, do they?

The part about cattle brings back some very vivid memories for me. It was a lot of years ago, and we had the worst freeze I've ever seen. Even our "frost free" waterers were frozen solid. We had to bring buckets of snow inside and melt them by the wood stove, then carry the buckets out to water the cattle. I remember my uncle hacking at the ice with an axe, thinking it can't be frozen completely solid, but it was. We were very fortunate that cold snap lasted less than a week. I never thought I'd be happy to see 20° temps, but that felt like summer in comparison.
