With stock ponds frozen, range cattle can't drink. The power companies are already warning about outages. Those coal-fired power plants don't seem so evil now, do they?

Think large acreage. Stock tanks can be miles away. Getting electric out to all parts of your property is a diy project that would be cost prohibitive and impractical for most.
