I know. It was hard. But if we won't even take a stand with these censorious assholes, and we let them continue spying on and censoring us, then where exactly will we armchair warriors take a stand?

So far, in 5 days, I've persuaded 13 of my friends to create a Telegram account and they all love it.

Take the plunge.

Fuck Zuck. Fuck Facebook. Take a stand for free speech. Don't let the CIA/FBI/NSA/DOJ/IRS watch your life.

I got rid of everything after election day. I don’t even use Amazon anymore.I don’t go to Walmart anymore. I am a grandmother and I bought no Christmas presents! I threw away two Alexa devices, Cancel the Amazon Prime, cancelled hulu, taped over my Ring Device.I cancelled Netflix last July. Got me proton email, dumped my Gmail!

I thought there was a gap TV thing being offered but I can’t find it on the Gab site! I am in great hopes that Andrew Torba or Elon Musk will start a cell phone company. I want to get rid of android and apple from the American people and they can keep their Covid trackers!

Very well done, you have more courage that most! I'm an expat living in the Philippines, so "giving up" a lot of these things was easy.

Getting rid of Google and Apple means getting rid of your smartphone. Very tough decision, and hopefully there will be an alternative soon.

Same for MasterCard, VISA, PayPal.

Getting rid of Amazon prime and not using Amazon has saved me so much fucking money it is awesome! Never did social media but just joined gab so we will see how that goes.

5
Gnometard 5 points ago +5 / -0

How do you save money by not shopping prime? Overspending out of convenience?

I'm very frugal and amazon had the cheapest prices for almost anything I needed.

Fuck amazon but they definitely saved me money

2
ChubzMaC 2 points ago +3 / -1

Cause I was buying a bunch of shit I didn’t need, the wife was also on my account. We had an Amazon truck at my house every day for like a year... I had always been frugal and not overly materialistic until I got Amazon prime 3 years ago, trying to get back to those roots.

You can de-Google an Android phone and still have a lot of good features. You don't have Siri or Google Maps but I have found ways around that. People are writing apps every day and putting them up on F-Droid. Check it out. https://www.androidpolice.com/2020/06/09/install-use-custom-rom-no-google-apps/

You can use a Linux phone, as for conservative entertainment, I’d recommend KlowdTV. These guys are BASED!

3

Is klowdtv like plutoTV?

5
PolishBaldEagle 5 points ago +5 / -0

I’d compare it closer to something like sling... Pluto is free versions of certain channels dedicated to Pluto. KlowdTV is more like “cutting the cord” but having a limited selection. The one I do is $2.50/mo which includes OANN. And if you’re military, it’s free

Oh ok. Thanks Pede!

6
salvecitizen 6 points ago +6 / -0

Gab TV is coming, according to Torba, but not quite here yet. I don't know much about the platform. Seems like there's some open standard that lets a group build sort of a roll-your-own Roku or Amazon Fire-type device.

One of the Reasons People Hesitate to Leave Facebook is because they have so many photos, messages, etc. (esp photos). Here are four links that instruct how easy it is to move all of your FB data and download it to your computer or transfer it to another blog, say WPress or such.

https://www.groovypost.com/howto/facebook/download-copy-all-facebook-data-pictures-video/

One interesting thing about downloading your timeline...looking at it provided me with an overwhelming sense of how much information about my psyche I provided for assholes to use to sell me shit or try to turn my political / philosophical views. This made me shudder.

6
Haliaeetus 6 points ago +6 / -0

Facebook feels terrible because it's a place where people consent to the slave paradigm the WEF is attempting to roll out with The Great Reset. Withdrawing your consent feels different. Better.

Very useful, thank you.

It is sad to see so many young people today putting complete trust in Facebook to safekeep what is effectively their family photo album -- only to lose it because of a forgotten password or a banning.

Facebook also reduces the quality of uploaded material.

Keep your own copies of important photos, don't depend on anyone else.

3
Carolina1 3 points ago +3 / -0

Thanks: I deactivated to keep Messenger going to talk with family, but had just decided to quit FB and Messenger altogether. Now, I'll go back in and get my pictures before I close it out for good.

Mine was 15 years old, last post I made called Zuckerberg a pedophile, downloaded my pictures, and off I went.

Got rid of FB/Twitter/IG and happy doing it.

Moving all Gmail stuff over to Protonmail, switched to Brave instead of Chrome.

Moving all money away from Capital One to a local credit union.

Fuck em all.

Time to make Facebook the new MySpace

11
PolishBaldEagle 11 points ago +11 / -0

Did you delete ALL your photos, likes, tags, groups, comments as well!? You MUST delete those first before you close your account. If you don’t do that, than that data still exists. Look up a program called imacros which will help you automate the deletion and disliking of your content. You also need to unfriend everyone prior to deleting, even delete chat history. I recommend stoping the deletion of your account, go back in, remove all associated content listed above, and once you have a 100% clean slate, then you can go in and delete

13
BasedNtruth 13 points ago +13 / -0

If you think deleting them off of FB actually deletes your dtaa/images off FB servers...I got some bad news. That data is theirs forever. Period. Just being honest

8
PolishBaldEagle 8 points ago +8 / -0

What people should be worried about more and they’re not is your browsing data being gather by search engines... they know more about you than you think and it’s impossible to delete that data... so, use ad blockers and VPN’s

5
PolishBaldEagle 5 points ago +5 / -0

Possibly so, but deleting everything prior to deleting the account makes it more difficult for people to find “that photo” and also, deleting that data states that you do not wish to continue to disclose what was once posted. I think they may be sued if a photo is brought back up and used to defame you especially if you deleted that specific photo.... also, I think that deleting your data will eventually scrub on the remaining servers essentially truly deleting your data

9
Haliaeetus 9 points ago +9 / -0

It will not delete your data. Facebook keeps shadow profiles even on people who have never used their service. They still know who you are, and where you visit, even if you have never opened an account ... unless you're aggressive and thorough about blocking them, which is esp. difficult if you use a smartphone.

They do not delete former account data, ever. But if it makes you feel better it's perfectly okay.

There is a loophole, though ... the staler the data over time, the less useful it can be for predictive manipulation.

And the more you personally evolve as a person -- in terms of psyche, spirit or strength -- after dumping GAFAM, the more stale the data is. If you stay the same, like many people do, they still know you too well. Become a new and reinvigorated person, and it will be useless.

6
SuperMario 6 points ago +6 / -0

This. I did this. Took me like 4 hours on an 8 year old account. But it feels so good.

There's some chrome addons that help too. One thay delete, but only from the old fb and one that turns fb into the old fb lol.

4
PolishBaldEagle 4 points ago +4 / -0

Yea, I removed all my photos but haven’t removed my comments/likes/places/groups. There’s a couple business related groups I still like to use which is why I haven’t deleted my FB completely

3
SuperMario 3 points ago +3 / -0

Mine is marketplace. It's the only reason I keep it. I removed everything. I mean everything. Likes. Comments. Replies. Almost all friends. All groups. Everything.. I want no reason. To ever go back there.

King5150 2 points ago +2 / -0

Time to make Facebook the new MySpace

3
pinchitony 3 points ago +3 / -0

this does nothing internally.

4
PolishBaldEagle 4 points ago +5 / -1

Do you work in IT? Because I do... servers around the world work by mirroring each other’s data continuously that way people have access to their data faster and also offers redundancy... your data is scattered across multiple drives and multiple servers. These servers eventually sync, so if you delete something, eventually, when its all synced, the data gets deleted... UNLESS!! Someone is ACTIVELY saving and holding on to YOUR data in particular. Now, that being said, I wouldn’t put it past FB if they’re actively saving user data for the reason to sell off that content. But at the same time, I don’t think they’re saving every single persons photos and storing it permanently. If anything, they probably have a 2-3 year hold on redundant data, so eventually things will be deleted

6
pinchitony 6 points ago +6 / -0

Yes, I have had for 17 years.

Facebook doesn’t delete data, ffs they even admitted to create “blank” profiles for people browsing webs that load any FB API if they aren’t logged in. The company is a data hoarder.

So much happier without it.

This month I deleted my 14 year old Twitter account. Yeah, it feels amazing. I was shadowbanned back in the summer of 2015.

0

Not a coincidence that's also when private citizen Trump announced his candidacy for President.

1
Stallionstyle 1 point ago +1 / -0

5
Doth 5 points ago +5 / -0

Now go back and think about why you created a facebook for a young minor, and say "jeeze" and tug on your collar. Glad you're back on the same page with the rest of us. You know Twitter started emailing all my old banned accounts to let me back onto them? 7 banned accounts, banned for decent reasons like calling celebrities faggot retard sluts.

They must be desperate.

4
MAGAdadUSA 4 points ago +4 / -0

I just deleted mine as well. I had it since 2001. Over time, it became a glorified birthday reminder. Feels really good not having the pressure to like or comment. People are now calling or texting instead. I like having only one way of being contacted.

4
Josh-Man 4 points ago +4 / -0

I recently deleted the FB account I had since the damn thing went live. It did feel good.

I also canceled Disney Plus. The service sucked anyways. My kids weren’t even using it.

I will be honest. I have not canceled Netflix and Prime. Would love to, but it is tough to cancel all these assholes.

Switching to Protomail is the next doable step. That’ll be a lengthy transition though. Email addresses have almost become the most important personal identifier - second to a SSN.

4
MadMickMcMick [S] 4 points ago +4 / -0

yts.mx + utorrent (+VPN if necessary) = never pay another dime to the Hollywood slimes

2
Haliaeetus 2 points ago +2 / -0

be sure to get a VPN with a killswitch. Then, you are good to go, and you will not watch anything passively or accidentally, which will be extremely healthy. And you will never pay for streaming again.

4
Primus88 4 points ago +4 / -0

I have one from 5+ years ago that I can not delete because no longer have that email. But yeah, I don't even carry a phone anymore. I really don't miss it at all. Especially when I look around at all the people staring at their phones

4
terrapin1234 4 points ago +4 / -0

Congrats. The best thing that happened to me in 2020 was deleting FB forever. Never looked back, and it wasn't nearly as hard as I thought. Once you realize who's really important and actually adds value to your life, it just further justifies the decision.

1

I hope that Telegram can take over local Marketplace functions at some point. Facebook has killed craigslist and other options that allow any privacy.

4
pinchitony 4 points ago +4 / -0

Just know that Telegram is also bad. Your content isn’t encrypted and the Russian government has access to it completely. They at least don’t seem to censor anything right now but watch out for not sharing any sensible data.

4
zeporscheguy 4 points ago +4 / -0

I deleted facepage two years ago. I don’t miss it. It’s easier than you think. They only have power when they have users. Deprive them of users and they lose their power.

3
Rhondevu85 3 points ago +3 / -0

I'm on the fence pedes. On one hand access to all my friends happenings and events and on the other hand lies that would pull my hair out from news media and that FUCKING caption about election fraud anytime 2020 fraud is mentioned.

10
SuperMario 10 points ago +10 / -0

Get Gab. Tell your friends you're moving there. Your real friends will move. Most of mine did. The one who don't. Aren't real friends anyways.

5
Assault-Covfefe 5 points ago +5 / -0

So, I felt the same way initially. Felt weird not being in contact with "friends". But honestly it ended up that I simply gravitated to a group of actual people and my real world friend base is better than ever.

Try this: put a post out that you're deleting FB in a week and ask people to DM you their emails and phone numbers so you can stay in contact. You'll be surprised how few will actually send you that info. And those that do - realize that they care enough about you to do that. You'll realize how shallow and empty FB interaction really is.

2
spaceforce_maganaut 2 points ago +2 / -0

I thought about it and then didn't post that I was leaving. Reason is that I have many leftist friends who would not hesitate to "archive" my posts and comments (I don't hold back on FB... even during the BLM "peaceful protests" I compared them to Nazis... the arguments were... well you can imagine 😂). Remember that one chick who recently got cancelled by some asshole years after she posted something?

Anyway one day I just left. No looking back.

3
Pepehands 3 points ago +3 / -0

I posted my email and phone to my close friends and family. If anyone wants to talk to me they can.

3

I deleted facebook too and I think I'm past the 30-day regret undeleter thingy window. Feels so free to not worry about getting fired for my freedom of speech! Not being on commie media is great!

3

Same. Feels liberating. I have more time to write, read and pick up skills outside my comfort zone. I wouldn't want to go back.

3
that1guy1981 3 points ago +3 / -0

It's designed to be very addictive, in order for me to delete my account, they automatically undelete it if you log back in under 30. I had to use a random password generator to change the password before I deleted it. That way no matter what I couldn't log back in.

3
crumbhole 3 points ago +3 / -0

me too.

3

Had one from 2004 to 2015. It was one of the greatest decisions of my life. Plus, I don’t want all my “friends” being able to see everything I am doing in my life. Need privacy. Avoid toxic leftist cesspool circle jerk that is Facebook.

I got rid of FB last summer. It was weird not being plugged in for about 2 weeks. Then it slowly faded into nothing. I don't even miss it and don't even think about it. I never had Twatter, instagram, or anything else, so decoupling from social media was a lot easier for me than others.

2
BumpForTrump 2 points ago +2 / -0

They watch you already. I think privacy narratives are utter bullshit. Just like the voting machines aren't hooked up to the internet narrative.

Im sure a lot of you remember the radical left in the Obama days talking about how safe and secure machines are. That they AREN'T hooked up to the internet and impossible to compromise or tamper with. It goes even before then, im sure, that's just when I first remember being aware of the conversation. I think that was just to get us complacent. Now that the truth is out, the deep establishment, deep state & media want to set the parameters of the national conversation. Anything outside of what the news says is acceptable is politically incorrect(note: the news is really a catch-all phrase that encompasses the media, deep state and deep establishment). They dictate what free speech is supposed to mean and what is acceptable boundaries of the national conversation, even with the 1st amendment. The power of media propaganda and obedience to the state is powerful. Because you have to stay in those imaginary conversation lines or you will be labeled a domestic terrorist, a racist or something else; basically made politically incorrect somehow.

That acts as the pretense to target your political enemies and dissidents. The media (emulating north korea's) call it security, civility unity- whatever they have to.

I dont know about telegram, but unless they're super based, they arent any better.

Great!

Don't go back, ever. After a few weekd you'll feel the difference. Freedom with terror, it's absolutely terrifying seeing how EVERYONE is controlled by social media.

I feel bad for the folks who rationalize keeping social media, they don't realize what they're doing to their mind and can't remember last week because of it.

If you have a phone, you have NO REASON for social media. Call or text, it's easy

2
Chongald_Xrump 2 points ago +2 / -0

I've been gone for a couple years now. It's great. First couple weeks can be rough if they had you addicted. But you'll find better places on the Internet to fill your time (like .win communities). People you actually need to stay in touch with can better communicate with you over text messages and email anyway.

Congrats!
