They were not called on herein to do either of those things; they were called upon to uphold the law of the land, the provisions of the federal constitution. To be clear, they voted for: (1) abject disregard of the First Amendment; (2) abject disregard for due process guarantees; (3) the impeachment of a private citizen, therefore abject disregard of Article I; and (4) abject disregard of Senate Rule 23, regarding the division of impeachment articles. They also utterly disregarded the fact that you do not even have a trial without a judge presiding over the proceedings. They also voted to allow rule changing mid-impeachment since witnesses were permitted and then denied once the witness list was partly known. They also voted to grant unto themselves the abrogated power to act in the role of the judiciary branch in proceeding without the Chief Justice of the SCOTUS, a separate branch of government. The U.S. Constitution specifies TWO things: the RESPONSIBILITIES of the federal government to the People and the States, and the RIGHTS guaranteed to the States and the People. It LIMITS the powers of the federal government in guaranteeing those rights, and does not empower them to REMOVE those limitations of its powers. Everything they did in holding the impeachment this week was treasonous insurrection against the highest law of the land, and grounds for their own impeachments.
