WV (my home state) has a terrible apathy problem. We've long forgotten how to fight - for anything. I'm honestly surprised that people vote at all. "It won't do any good anyway," they say to me. This past election sadly proves their point. Our state has been financially and spiritually decimated.
For example: My hometown mayor is a known crook and drug dealer, he installs his family and friends into city and county positions to do what he wants. He brings in federal and state funds - directly into his pocket. These things are common knowledge around the county. He's as slimy as they come - and yet he' been voted in as mayor for the last thirty years. Last election, he got 39 votes. And won. People stopped running against him about ten years ago because it doesn't do any good.
