I think a big contributor isn't really the masks but the hysteria around the virus. Kids are likely becoming neurotic about touching anything or anyone that could have germs, become overly sensitive if anyone is closer than 6 ft away, trying to identify any weird feeling as a sign they or someone else is infected with COVID, etc. Of course the lack of socialization also hurts!
The study is a little unreliable because of the methodology, but even a little bit of common sense should tell any parent that masking your kid for months and scaring them into not trusting others or being close to others is damaging to a young person.

I was leaving target yesterday and as I was pulling away I saw a mother and her 2 children in masks. The youngest child appeared to be less than 3 years old and still wearing diapers. This is child abuse. It's disgusting.
Breaks my heart to see the little ones in masks. There’s no sense to it, and anyone can see it’s harming them. We’re teaching them to stay disconnected from their real life community.

It's common sense that masks are not to be worn for an extended period of time based solely on the knowledge that your body is exhaling CO2 because it is toxic to your body. Now you put a mask on and constantly rebreath that CO2.

It's heartbreaking seeing kids in masks. I also think it's disgusting and wrong to make them fear their peers.

Masks harm everyone. I've experienced a lot of those effects myself from wearing a mask to work (I don't wear it any other time)
