Not the person you replied to, but I think their point was really just there are good Christians and bad Christians, just like there are good people and bad people in general, regardless of one's faith. As an Atheist myself, I love the community here, not because of any religion, but because of our great GEOTUS, the constitution, and what is RIGHT

You know I actually had one of these so called Christians tell me hate the sinner not the sin to excuse their hate of people, in this thread? No where in the bible does it say that. No where. Don't even try psalms or malachi. God is perfect (duh), His love and hate are also perfect. We are commanded to love our enemies. The bible describes love, and specifically states dont disparage.
I'm laughing all the way to the after life. You try to tell em, and they hate you for it.
nah, I messed up, he said love the sinner hate the sin, its just not biblical. There is no place for that which is imperfect to attempt hate the way God does it.
Idk why, but autocorrect changes things it shouldn't, like sin to sinner and sinner to sin.
Point remains, for any scripture in one version saying love what is righteous and hate wickedness, there is another that says love what is righteous and reject, obtain, etc from wickedness.
I dont agree that hate is useful to any human. Reject wickedness, do not hate.
No, autocorrect changes things it shouldn't. My bad.
It isn't biblical to hate anything. Yes, I have seen a version that says hate wickedness, but others that use different words like reject, abstain, beware... etc.
Thanks.
Far as I'm concerned, trial and error works, now I dont hate.
Thing about the fallen people is that they would help themselves if they could but they can't, resentment is in the way.
Something was missing. I asked God to forgive me for hating and to show me how to love all things. I fail of course, yet, the results are proof to me.
God takes hate away when one apologizes for holding on to it.
I went and told my parents I am sorry for resenting them, as that is not love, and it is wrong. Did I hate them or what they did? Is it what you do that you are judged for or "who you are," and are those things separate, really?
Why would anyone do anything out of character, unless actions speak to the soul? If you hate what a man does, isn't it the reflection of the man that you hate via the actions of the man?
If there were no rapists, would there be rape to hate?
Actions are who you are. Forgiveness is because the fallen state is helpless to resist evil. Without it, we would be hated perfectly unto death and judged thereafter. A novice in the word would know this after reading the gospels. The wages of sin is:
The penalty of the law is:
Christ came to fulfill the penalty of the law as a perfect sacrifice. Part of my joke when I said pearls and swine, is because christs proverbs or parables were better than anything the book of proverbs had to offer, and reveals the same. The Bible is useless without the Jesus. You'll end up bitter like bolsheviks. Lol jk but am I?
The truth about everything can be revealed directly, any knowledge that matter, via silent prayer aka listening to God. He already knows what you need? Why ask vainly? Does a Heavenly all knowing Father know His kid is hungry, hand him a rock and say be filled? Nope.
A good son listens to his father.
I was never a good son, as I never knew my father. I hated my mother for choosing him. I resented things she could not help. I was helpless.
Thank God, that He is, cause I'd be screwed otherwise.
I lived like you describe for decades as a young Christian. Learning to hate what God hates is not at all natural for me. It was a mind blown experience when I learned this is a goal.
I entered the convo with you mentioning or questioning hating perfectly. That one passage is the best descriptor of it I know of, and I can't make it say that hating the actions is to hate the person.
I have no idea how this compares to the rest of your Faith system, and that IS important! I will also concede that this idea won't work in an individual processing hatred of their own parent(s); I had to work through that, too.

I think that person just messed up the saying. It’s “love the sinner, hate the sin.” Or maybe it was a troll stirring shit up.

Exactly. The saying is hate the sin, not the sinner. That isn't in the Bible either, but it's an accurate enough summary of a lot of Scripture.
Hopefully the person who said that to you just messed up.
