It's a shadow from his collar projected by an upward pointing light. (It perfectly mimics the contours of the collar as he moves his head. Would a mask change shape??)

The use upward lighting to minimize eye shadows and age wrinkles.

Also in CGI a mask can be used to project a deepfake or 3D rigged model onto a mappable service

so it's very possible a imaging algorithm auto corrects for any improper deformation of a mask

Theres an old gif of someone wearing an emma watson mask and then taking it off using the same a similar technique

Then.... wouldn't the edge of his jawline also be lighter, and the center of the cheeks be darker, since they'd be shaded by the jawline?

Looks like an edited video to me, where the mouth and jaw area were superimposed, but the algo stitching the two isn't "quite there" and no one bothered to inspect the final product with much scrutiny.
