From now on they’re going to have to make me put it on, and if they do I’ll leave after proclaiming I’ll take my business elsewhere

Yep. I've been doing the same but if you want a 100% free out just grab an "Emergency Alert" bracelet or dog tag. I have one for myself that has nothing to do with any medical issue and I flash it if any store employee's say anything. I've been approached by a covidian outside the store though which I thought was funny.
