I've watched the 'clean freaks' get very ill from every little bug that goes around. They are actively destroying their immune systems. There is more information all the time about the importance of exposure to many substances. One doctor I heard recommended every new baby get a new puppy and some dirt to play in- exposure to many germs is important for building the immune system.

yep; put a baby and a puppy on the kitchen floor, allow to roll around. latherrinserepeat, take outside latherrinserepeat. i feel like there are parents who inadvertently give their kids issues, like peanut allergies and celiac disease by forcing food fads (gluten-free!) on their kids. am 58 yo lady pede, and i don't recall a single kid w/ peanut allergies or calling off bake sales bc of potential food allergies. bake sales were our "go to" fund raisers and now i understand they're almost non-existent.

i never said that peanut allergies and celiac disease weren't real. i am suspicious of the rise of these medical issues in children when they seemed rare before. i grew up living all over the country and internationally, so was around a large variety of people from different countries and cultures in the 70's/80's. i don't even recall hearing about peanut allergies until the late 90's. i think some of these conditions can be triggered/created in some people who don't have them by withholding certain foods in early life, and then being exposed to them at a later time. it happens in reverse, too---our bodies change every 7-10 years; i became allergic to milk (which i used to LOVE and drink gallons) at the age of 55. i recently received indication that walnuts and i no longer share the same loving relationship we used to. i'm a lil pissed about that.

Agree on all except the gluten free. Wheat is GMO now and I think it is the cause of many of the other allergies. It destroys the gut. Gluten free food isn't better nutrition-wise though.
