This particular crisis is "man-made." Texas has plenty of capacity to heat in winter, because it needs so much more capacity to cool in summer. To pretend that merely removing the wind-generated capacity can cause this much of a problem is beyond stupid. Maybe wind and ice can cause some outages, but lack of capacity should be completely off the table.

I could believe that some jerks have underestimated need and failed to plan for a sudden pull on resources. There should be names associated with that foolishness.

That would also explain why they didn't start sanding the roads immediately when it started icing. People are already dead because of that fuck up.
