They should just rename this the Robot Full Employment Act. None of these people making $8 an hour today would actually go to $15. They would go to $0 per hour as they lost their jobs. Businesses do not exist to provide jobs. They exist to provide goods and services and to make a profit. If they raise the input costs of labor too high then the business will simply replace the workers with automation or close down altogether.
Also we NEED low level, low wage jobs because that's how low skill and young workers gain skils and experience and get their foot in the door. All this would do is to rip the lowest rung off of the job ladder, making it impossible for low skilled people to start climbing the ladder.
It's awful for a million reasons but unfortunately uneducated and low IQ people see "more money = good" and can't reason beyond that.
This is what drives me crazy. I see so many comments saying (mostly on reddit): "If you can't afford to pay employees a living wage, then you don't deserve to be in business".
Nobody starts a business with the goal of paying employees. (Some people claim they do, like wanting to "give back to the community" etc. But it's mostly BS) Businesses are started to make money. Hiring employees is a byproduct.
Exactly. I get sick of those reddit comments as well. These kids have never owned a business or spent a single minute trying to see things from a business owner's perspective.
