A lot of jobs don’t need to exist anymore on top of that in the realm of people making minimum wage. Like servers at fast food places. Or even at this point cashiers at department stores. Or greeters. They’re courtesy hires as it is and not meant to be forever jobs anyway. Even a lot of the Amazon warehouse folks are likely to be replaced by robots.

Jobs like that used to be great for HS kids and people starting out and moms looking for some extra money and people between things. Now laws are fucking all that up and those jobs probably won’t exist for much longer. Big companies can even use Covid and safety as a cover for getting rid of ‘front line essential workers’ at places like Walmart.

In the Bay when they first started raising minimum wage, or requiring people working over a certain amount of hours get health insurance, businesses mostly had less people working shifts at once, and kept their total work hours now under that mark and hired more people to make up the difference, also with less hours. You now had to work 2 jobs to get what you made at 1 because somebody decided you were asking for shitty health insurance that the government also ruined.

IT IS MUCH MUCH MORE IMPACTFUL THAN THAT.

AS AN ENGINEER I HAVE CONSIDERED OPENING MY OWN FIRM, BUT EVERY BUSINESS I CONSIDER MY FIRST THOUGHT IS HOW CAN I DO THIS WITHOUT EMPLOYEES AND ONLY CONTRACTORS. SO FINE. I WONT HIRE A DRAFTER, INSTEAD I WILL RETAIN ONE ON CONTRACT, SAME WITH MY INSTALLER. HELL I AM WORKING WITH AN ELECTRICIAN RIGHT NOW TO GET INTO HIS OWN FIRM JUST SO HE CAN HANDLE MY WORK BECAUSE THAT IS EASIER AND SAFER THEN RETAINING HIM AS AN EMPLOYEE. IT IS A CLOWN WORLD.

MINIMUM WAGES AND ALL THE OTHER +++++ THAT GOVERNMENT HAS PUT IN PLACE HAS MADE STARTING ANYTHING INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT.

EVENTUALLY WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO KEEP THIS ECONOMY GOING WITH THE SHEER FORCE OF PRINTED MONEY.

That's an INTERESTING SCENARIO where EVERYONE IS AN S-CORP and pays their own self-employment taxes and no payroll taxes. Would there be other tax side-effects? Wondering if would become a self-correcting system.

The cost of health insurance is steep in that world.
