The minimum wage worker isn't getting health insurance or RSU or much other benefits, so the total cost to the employer is still pretty low. Given the price point of the product rendered, why can't the businesses pay a decent wage? The landlord upped their price on the rent many times over, but it's horrible that the employee get any?
Unlike the huge amounts of money that are gained by people at the top, the money at the bottom is rapidly redistributed into the economy. The Panera employee making $15 is going to spend it at other local businesses.
Raising the minimum wage accelerates investment in automation, which makes jobs go away permanently.
It essentially becomes the cost of living. Min wage jobs used to be for teenagers. Now, grown adults want the American Dream while working fast food.
