The expectation is that tonight (when temps drop into teens) many of the elderly will freeze to death in their homes— which are not built with adequate insulation or fireplaces, due to the typical climate of the region.
The wife and I were driving to get gas and snacks. We saw a completely dark neighborhood with ambulance lights shining brightly and what appeared to be an elderly woman, was being taken out of her home on a stretcher. This shit is sad af. Definitely deadlier than COVID.

Yup. Have lots of relatives there; most live in West or East Texas so I'm hoping they still have heat.
