Hydroelectric and geothermal and solar are all pretty green. Nuclear is a marvel, but nuclear ☢️ has its own issues. Fukushima Daiichi could have been much worse and it may be worse than most realize. Experts say another Chernobyl is virtually impossible, but experts are often surprised by things deemed unlikely happening given time and human nature.
And nuclear is not nearly as reliable as advertised. Look up the big fiasco of the San Onofre nuclear plant. Now there’s a radioactive eyesore on the SoCal coast to the tune of billions of dollars.
Fukishima was built in rather poor place for a nuclear power plant though (in flood zone). And it only fail because the auxiliary power generators (not nuclear) got flooded.
Chernobyl is extremely unlikely to repeat without extrenal involvement (aka someone literally blowing the plant up). First of, the technology used in Cheronbyl was outdated even by the time it happened, and you know, communism forcing people to report good results, no matter what (same as China with the flu, if it wasn't for the overblown bureaucracy and favoritism, it might have remained contained in Wuhan region)
or you know....just buy natural gas plants that are safe and have a reliable fuel source?
I'm saying if they want green stuff, nuclear plants are as green and reliable as you can get.
