The Jacobins were a political party that stressed redistribution of power and assets in France, and produced the French Revolution, 1789-1799. They killed the monarchs and took over the country. The Jacobins are the acknowledged role model for the USA Democrat Party.

>The Society of the Friends of the Constitution (French: Société des amis de la Constitution), renamed the Society of the Jacobins, Friends of Freedom and Equality (Société des Jacobins, amis de la liberté et de l'égalité) It's all a very interesting history, I'm sure someone already produced a similar analysis but the European ideology of leftism all stems somewhere from the American, English, German, and French thinkers of the time. All-n-all, it's a very distant parallel between Marx's ideas and the Founders' except Marx perverted something good and natural -- laissez-faire -- and turned it inside out which inevitably leads to a disaster. Well, one way or the other, all that theory is fun but it's full of fallacies and needs some serious reworking before we proceed forward, imo.

PS. And don't forget about Girondins -- the original race-equality jockeys.

Admittedly, while neither an expert nor a scholar, permit me to throw out a few ideas. (1) If the leftism of the French Revolution was associated with America, it could have been in the area of the search for Utopia, a worldwide adventure occupying thoughts of leaders everywhere with the idea of new forms of government. Attention had turned to the monarchy, much closer to home for Europeans than Americans. By the time the founders had finished designing government as best they could, the model was a representative democracy, or, a republic, in service of the people. (2) In the late 1700s, the Jacobins, who were destined to shape the French Revolution (1789 - 1799) rose to become the guiding lights of the French Revolution, first orchestrating the violent and bloody "Reign of Terror," 1789-1794, which culminated in the beheading of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette in 1793. A period of economic hardship and runaway immigration triggered it. (3) The agenda that was to prevail installed what has been called "The Godless State" in place of what had been the authority of Royalty and the Roman Catholic Church, The State was to be worshipped. From the ensuing chaos rose France's version of a benevolent dictator, Napoleon, who took over in 1804. I think these facts are accurate. With respect to the original claim, once the Jacobins had achieved their aim, they proved themselves unworthy, barbaric, ruthless, disorganized, and unfit to rule in any form. Napoleon came in and put out the fire. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_Revolution
