Wind turbines and solar panels are not new so why do they not have mechanisms to prevent them from freezing? Seems like a pretty easy problem to solve since they make power they could even self power the heating mechanism.
There should be no "mechanism" needed, since water is not involved. I'm thinking it must be choice of temperature range of lubricant, but idk. We have windmills in the northern tier.

They are made to be bought with taxpayer money, and installed within view of a major road. Producing power is someone else's problem.

Are you referring to the politicians holding the majority currently in DC? That answers the question.
