Kommiefornia bans wood stoves and natural gas in new developments. Bans natural-gas fired pizzerias.

Wut? CA has actually banned using natural gas in new construction, one of the most efficient ways to heat, cook, etc.

I don't consider myself a great cook, bur even I know electric stoves and ovens are garbage.

At first I was thinking that you were shitposting... But, I guess you are right.

At least the ban seems to be only San Francisco, not the entire state, but activists are working on it.

The 100% smooth brained play of this is that 47% of California's electrical generation is from Natural Gas. Even with Combined Cycle, you only get a 60% efficiency with natural gas... along with transmission losses, you'll end up with only ~50% of the energy actually available for thermal purposes at the residence, compared with 100% efficiency, when natural gas is used for thermal purposes.

Now, I'm actually a big fan of electric stoves, microwaves, tankless electrical heaters, etc... But, it's only when it's paired with something like nuclear, hydro, or a renewable behind it. But, banning natural gas for thermal purposes is... just super dumb.

In SF, Berkeley, San Jose, other places, the liberals successfully banned gas.. I view it as Agenda 2030-driven. In Sunnyvale they are replacing old single story dwellings with 7 story rabbit hutch apartments for the proles, all electric, no gas, no yards, no real homes anymore. Sterile blocky monoliths. The idea is to jam people into cities densely. With more people, one needs to reduce carbon use, so they get rid of natural gas. In conjunction with this they banned gas engine vehicle sales starting 2030 for California. It occurs to me that Berkeley's U of Cal chem labs can no longer have Bunsen burners or the like. I am guessing they will need propane tanks in some labs.

Chemistry is a tool of the patriarchy. Science is hate.

No one said libs are smart. They will burn nat gas and loose 50% of the energy burned to run a hot water heater or furnace instead of using a 90% or higher efficient furnace or instant hot water heater.

I've used electric stove and convection/microwave for 40 years, they are fine

Got me a Mac10-10 and a new fangled Ryobi with a brake and primer and self lubing the Ryobi is fast but the Mac is a beast.

Fine isn't great. Gas is where it's at

Electric stove is fine for mac and cheese. Anything beyond that, you want gas.

ya wants an gas top and electric oven. daz it

Do you have an actual reason why or just elitism? I've never used a gas stove personally, tbh.

There are many versions these days, first it's the metal plate version everyone knows, this is slow and the plate will stay hot for very long afterwards. Ceramic hob is basically the same principle but heats up and cools down faster. Then there's induction which only works with specific types of frying pans and saucepans.

I'm an average chef, not good not terrible but have never failed simply because of an electric stove. Been cooking on all types of electric and gas stoves and there's not much difference other than the time it takes to reach optimal temperature. The secret is basically to let the pan get hot enough before adding the food, otherwise the food gets dry and taste bad.

Now, the real reason you want gas. Is because it's easy to store in a tank outside of your house, this way you can keep cooking even after the government says your a "domestic terrorist" and shuts your power off.

I will agree that electric stoves do work, I much prefer the instant changes to heat when cooking on a gas stove. That, and you can light a gas stove with a match and be able to use the burners in a power outage is invaluable.

Perhaps even more ridiculous is on top of that they're actively shutting down nuclear power plants, the only "green" energy source that has any hope of supplying electricity needs.

I think the filter removed my previous post:

You wot mate? New Zealand has a buttload of woodstoves and collecting rain water is standard for rural communities and properties. Even regular homes in towns with water can have collectors.

(I had a bunch of links to rain collecting systems you can buy in NZ).

U wot m8, They banned natural gas in new developments...?! what the fuck are they using for power, sjw tears...?!

They banned fucking wood fireplaces!!! Loony tunes

Replacement? We can worry about that later!

Don't you know the sea is going to boil and the trees are catching on fire?! Oh wait the world is frozen over right now? Shame. Guess we'll have to do it anyways because we're getting paid to cripple America for communist China.

MarcusAurelius 3 points ago +3 / -0

Apparently 47% natural gas. I guess the SJWs don't believe in science after all.

Not sure I follow...?!

The electrical energy generation mix in California uses about 47% Natural Gas. So, it's ironic that they are banning use for thermal purposes (which it is about 100% efficient for this job). Instead relying on electrical heating. Of course, this method isn't as efficient. Although Combined Cycle Gas Turbines are among the most efficient power generators, at about 60% thermal efficiency, it's still not 100%. Peaker plants using Natural Gas are far less efficient.

So, the behavior of these policies are that they burn gas in an electrical generator, lose >40% of the energy (and release CO2 into the atmosphere), then transmit that power to electrical appliances.... rather than just burn the gas for thermal purposes at 100% efficiency.1
