Yeah that song never made sense to me with the very first line.

I mean, I listened to this song in high school when I had a girlfriend in high school while I was in high school. Maybe he’s sick, maybe it’s a call back to messing around when your parents aren’t home... who knows.

Same here. I listened to his music in high school, but never really listened to lyrics of any song per se. Not until I was older and started listening to lyrics once I had my own daughters did his lyrics seem creepy.

Embarrassing to admit I used to like him.

He used to write really good music, Nebraska was awesome. If he'd just died before he became a sellout weirdo loser he'd be legendary.

Geez, never noticed before. Not surprising though.

I mean it's kind of a regular thing in rock music. There's a couple of things that you have to realize

  1. Not all song lyrics are written from the point of view of the singer. However, even when you write from a different perspective you run the risk picking out what catches your interests. So let's say this is from the perspective of a serial rapist. Bruce. obviously found it interesting that his imaginary criminal could do this to young girls. That's why when you write about being another person you need to be cognizant of what aspects of the act you're showcasing.

  2. Calling young women little girls is a common theme in rock. It doesn't necessarily mean they're into jailbait. Generally yes, it is a thing in rock music to write about young teenage girls. You have to remember though that for the first 2 decades of rock music's existence the main audience were young high school aged people. It's only when that audience got older that it become weird that the singers still wrote about that. Even still a lot of newer band still sing about that but again rock is young people's music.

There are some songs that are just weird. Good Morning Little Schoolgirl which was written by an middle aged black man is weird even by 50's blues standards. I highly recommend getting your 32 year old girlfriend who is 4 years older than you to dress up like a school girl while put on some black face, pretend to creep up on her and start talking like Louis Armstrong before you ball her. It make an old woman feel young again. Hehe. "Yessum. Uhh I's jussa tryna get to da park up da road missus. Yessum." That shit makes 'em go wild.

Haven't you seen the Blues Brothers? That whole bar would have killed them if they didn't play at least one country tune. You need to know how to play at least one song from other acts.

  1. Good musicians play what they want to.
  2. Great musicians play other people's music
  3. Legends play both.

Meh. He's kind of cheesy. Thunder Road's an ok song but other then that I can't say I like his whole output. I'm a musician. I can't be too pick with what I play and listen to or else people in a town won't throw money in the hat.

Bitches also love to be Little Red Riding Hood. I like to be the big bad wolf.

I've seen/heard "daddy" used as a synonym for boyfriend or husband before. Johnny Cash in Cocaine Blues: "I thought I was her daddy, but she had five more."

Combining it with little girl makes it questionable though.

I always thought it sounded more like he had a migraine or the flu than he was horny. The perspective of an eight year old.

Umm,no. Can there be ONE side of the political divide that at least tries to be ADULT ? It's just NORMAL song lyrics. It's your interpretation that is perverse.

Different periods in your life cause you to look at things differently. I had a Melissa Etheridge tape that I listened to from time to time. I found out she was a Lesbian and went back over one of her songs.

Somebody bring me some water

I’m burning out of control

Can’t you see my baby’s got another woman

Song still worked.
